This past Friday the children and I were privileged to be present at an award ceremony honoring Bill for his service to Lt General Hejlik as his Aide for the last year. Bill was presented with a Meritorious Service Medal, an award that is typically not given to Captains, but is a high award held for field grade officers. Listening to what General Hejlik had to say about Bill was enough to bring me to tears and seeing how truly surprised and humbled Bill was to be presented with such a high award, far exceeding his highest expectations, (which he had none, as he always does when doing his job), made this past year and all its struggles and hardships well worth it.
